GRANTSVILLE, MD., Dec. 15 - William E. Bevans, son of Mrs. Marshall Beachy and the late Edward Bevans, died at the home of his mother, Saturday morning, Dec. 12, following an illness of six months of heart trouble. He was born at Union Bridge, Md., Feb. 23, 1912, and lived 19 years, 9 months and 19 days. Besides his mother and step-father, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Frances Bevans
Boucher, Washington, D.C.; Miss Mary Bevans, at home; three brothers, Lee and Charles, of Washington, and Ellwood Bevans, Horton, Kansas; also a half-brother, James M. Beachy, and half-sister, Betty Beachy, at home; three step-sisters, Mrs. Thomas McKeag, Braddock, Pa.; Miss Evelyn Beachy, Nashville, N.C., and Mrs. Eugene Baker, Grantsville, and a step-brother, Frank Beachy, Smock, Pa.
William Bevans was a grandson of Gilead Broadwater, a well known merchant of town, and of the late Dr. H. L. Bevans, and Mrs. Jane Bevans, of Connellsville, Pa. He was graduated from the Grantsville High School, class of 1930, and was popular among his schoolmates, making friends wherever he went. He was of a kind humorous disposition and one of Grantsville's industrious, prosperous young men. He was employed in G. W. Diefenbach's store before going to Washington, D.C.
Since his graduation he held a responsible position with the People's Drug Stores in Washington, and was preparing to enter college there when his health failed in July. His health had improved somewhat and he was brought to the house of his mother six weeks ago by his sister, Mrs. Boucher, who faithfully and tenderly cared for him during his last weeks of serious illness.
He was a member of St. John's Reformed Church here. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and loved ones. Funeral services were held at the Beachy home on Tuesday morning, and were attended by a large number of friends and relatives. Rev. M. A. Kieffer, the pastor, read a very appropriate scripture selection, followed by prayer and a
short address. The Miller-Yoder quartette sang "That Beautiful Land." The pallbearers were: Harold Setzer, Harry Murray, Markel Stanton, William Turner, Charles Paul and Allen Rodamer. The many beautiful floral tributes and kindness bestowed upon him during his illness were significant of the high esteem in which he was held. Interment was made in the Grantsville Cemetery.
