WM. H. ANDEREGG IS LAID TO REST.
As mentioned in last week's Journal, Wm H. Anderegg passed away at his home in West Bend on Monday, Sept. 11. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon and were very largely attended, showing the high esteem in which deceased was held. The services were conducted by Rev. F. W. Whitford. The six sons acted as pallbearers. Interment was made in the West Bend cemetery beside the remains of his wife and son, Harry. Wm. H. Anderegg was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on August 13, 1849. While yet a child he emigrated to Iowa with his parents and settled at Guttenberg, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. On September 12, 1872, he was united in marriage to Eliza Moser, who preceded him in death on February 6 of this year. To this union fourteen children were born-seven sons and seven daughters, as follows: Herman B. of Worthington, Minn.; Mrs. Magdelena Banwart of Melrose Park, Illinois; Mrs. Clara Parson, Mrs. Tillie Harrison, both of St. Paul; Mrs. Florence Mikes of Fairfax, Minn.; Alfred C., Wm. H. Nicholas A. and Mrs. Emma Schroeder, all of Guttenberg, IA; Mrs. Dora Bauman of Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Lottie Turner of Howell, Mich.; Edward A. and Ernest G. of West Bend; and Harry, who died in 1918, while in the service of his country. Besides his children he leaves to mourn his death 57 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren, also three brothers, Charles of Lake Wales, Florida, J. P. of Galveston, Texas, and H. F. of West Bend, also one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Broell of Dubuque, Iowa, and a half-sister, Mrs. Mattie Abbott, of Guttenberg, Iowa. In the spring of 1890, he came to Kossuth county where he farmed until 1901 when he retired and moved to West Bend where he has since resided. Mr. Anderegg was one of the pioneer settlers of Garfield twp., Kossuth county, when there were only a few people living between West Bend and Algona and lived to see the development of this county from its virgin stage to a great agricultural country. He was a charter member of the Prairie Valley lodge I.O.O.F., and for thirty years was a member Templar lodge, A.F.& A.M. His religious leaning went to the Methodist church. To enumerate the different events in the life of Mr. Anderegg would be a hard task, but, no doubt, the most outstanding was the large family which he raised and started out in this world. He loved to have them and their families about him. No need to say he was a hard worker in his prime. To support such a family one need be and he and his wife richly deserved their rest when they retired from the farm. Mr. Anderegg interested himself in different community enterprises, and while he, perhaps, did not take an active part in them, yet his finances were frequently called upon. All who had business dealings with him always found him to be on the square. He always had a cheery greeting an acquaintance. He loved to fish and hunt for pastime, and even in late years he could not lay aside his gun even though it required much walking to find game. He was a man whom everyone respected and he will be missed. The Journal extends sincere sympathy to the sorrowing relatives in their bereavement. Among those who came from a distance to attend the funeral and when they returned to their homes were: Mr. and Mrs. Nick Anderegg, Mrs. A. C. Anderegg and Mrs. Mattie Abbott returned to Guttenberg Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Lou Moser and Wm. Anderegg of Guttenberg and Mrs. L. Friedlein of Osterdock returned Friday. Mrs. John Parsons and Mrs. Kenneth Parsons returned to St. Paul Friday. Mrs. and Mrs. Joe Mikes and children returned to Fairfax, Minn., Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Anderegg and Katherine Collins to Moneta, Iowa, Thursday. Mildred McCullough went home with them for a week's visit. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Moser of Emmetsburg. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schoeder and Lorin and Elma and Alfred Anderegg returned to Guttenberg Sunday. Mrs. Harry Harrison returned to St. Paul Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. John Moser of Guttenberg and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Moser of Osterdock returned to their homes Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Anderegg returned to Worthington, Minnesota, Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Sorem and daughter of Bigelow, Minnesota, and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Clapper and Clifford Anderegg of Worthington to their homes Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Banwart and son, Archie, and Mrs. H. Swanson returned to Melrose Park, Ill., Thursday.
