REV. WILBERT E. BANKS
The Rev. Wilbert E. Banks, 76, Williamsburg, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday morning at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Huston Township, son of the late J. Edward and Erma P. (Gunnett) Banks. He married June L. Forshey Nov. 19, 1951, in Williamsburg. She preceded him in death July 12, 2005.
Surviving are four sons: James R. (wife, Nena) of Toccoa, Ga., Michael A. (wife, Connie) of Wilmington, Del., Tad F. (wife, Kelly) of Lewistown and Timothy M. of Newville; two daughters: Sally S. Newman (husband, Thomas) of Lewistown and Rebecca A. Gurskis of Williamsburg; 11 grandchildren; three step grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, J. Barry of Williamsburg.
The Rev. Banks was a member of Clappertown CMA Church, Williamsburg RR 2. He retired as pastor of James Creek Church of the Brethren, Marklesburg, in 2005. Previously, he pastored at Williamsburg Church of the Brethren, Dillsburg CMA Church, Paintersville CMA Church and Chester CMA Church, with a total of 33 years' ministerial service.
The Rev. Banks was a 1951 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg, and a 1972 graduate of Toccoa Falls Bible College, Toccoa Falls, Ga., with a bachelor's degree in theology.
He enjoyed carpentry, gardening and reading.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. today, March 27, at Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Clappertown CMA Church, Williamsburg RR 2, with Pastors Jerry Wise and Richard Kauffman officiating. Interment will be held at Shellytown Fairview Cemetery, Williamsburg RR 2. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Clappertown CMA Church Memorial Fund or the Williamsburg Public Library.
