Son of William & Mary Ellen Rusk/Ward. June 26, 1932 Samuel married Helen Ester Cox, of Lafayette, Indiana. Family and friends tell their courtship and marriage was full of love and companionship. After Samuel graduated from Klondike High School (1928) he joined his brother-in-law (Harold Young) in the grocery business in Lafayette. He also joined the Indiana National Guards and worked his way up from Pvt. to Captain. Jan 1941 his unit 113th Medical Regiment, 38th Division were called to active duty and maneuvers in Mississippi in prep for WWII. Samuel was mortally injured in these maneuvers. Son William was 6 and daughter Joyce 4. Military and family records tell us, "Samuel was highly respected and will be sorely missed."
