1. It is with great regret that we announce the death of Captain Samuel H. Ward, M.A.C., Headquarters and Service Company, 113th Medical Regiment. Captain Ward died Monday, November 3, 1941 in the Station Hospital at Camp Shelby as the result of accidental injuries incurred on Friday October 31, 1941 in the Regimental Area.
2. Captain Ward was born September 22, 1909 in Indiana and was 32 years of age at death. He started his military career as a Private in Headquarters and Service Company, 113th Medical Regiment January 3, 1929, advanced through all enlisted grades and was appointed Second Lieutenenant, M.A.C. July 6, 1933 and assigned to Headquarters and Service Company; was appointed First Lieutenant, M.A.C. July 2, 1936 and transferred to Company "E", 113th Medical Regiment, which Company he commanded until January 12, 1939 when he was transferred to Headquarters and Service Company. He was inducted into Active Military Service of the United States, January 17, 1941 and was appointed Captain M.A.C., May 28, 1941.
3. As general supply officer for the Regiment, Captain Ward performed his assigned duties cheerfully and efficiently, working night and day under adverse conditions, at times, in order that supplies would reach all units of the Regiment without delay. In addition to his regular duties, he was always willing to undertake other assigned duties and did everything possible for the good of the Regiment.
4.We have lost an excellent officer and a loyal friend in the untimely death of Captain Ward.
5. The heartfelt sympathy of all the officers and enlisted men of the Regiment goes out to his widow and his two children as they leave for Lafayette, Indiana where final services and interment will take place.
