Despite being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) 32 years ago, Jane O. Kelly never gave up. And she would never complain. She developed many other illnesses, yet it seemed nothing could keep her down. In spite of it all, she continued a very active lifestyle.

Well into her nineties, she walked outside every day, traveled, played bridge and cared for her beloved pets. She remained involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; always interested in their activities, remembering birthdays and anniversaries.

At age 96, Jane died peacefully on November 11, surrounded by the family who loved her.

Jane was born 10 May 1915 in Minot, North Dakota, the daughter of Mark and Constance Oseth. She married Lt. John E. (Jack) Kelly in 1937 and together they had seven children. When Jack retired in 1970, the Kellys made the Atlanta area their home. They built their dream house in Marietta, where she developed a large circle of friends. She lost the love of her life when her darling Jack died in 1995.

But even Jack's death could not diminish Jane's zest for living. To the end, she cherished having friends and family drop by to share a conversation and a glass of wine. She loved to travel and even took a cruise of the Baltic with several of her children at age 90.

Jane is survived and will be terribly missed by her children: J. Michael Quigg, Patrick and Richard Kelly, Maureen Starks, Timothy Kelly and Erin Benitez; her sons and daughters-in-law, her 11 grandchildren and her 14 great-grandchildren. Son Jack, Jr. was killed in Vietnam in 1969.

The memory of Jane's strength, courage and dignity will be an inspiration to them all. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Humane Society in her name would be much appreciated.

According to her wishes, Jane's life will be celebrated in a gathering of friends and family in the near future. She was cremated and her ashes will be interred in her husband's grave at Arlington Cemetery in Washington, DC.
