LOUISA S. "LIZZIE" SCHULTE

Louisa S. "Lizzie" Schulte, age 96, passed away Nov. 9, 2000 in Castroville. She was born in Quihi, Jan. 2, 1904, to John and Annie Hartman.

She married Alfred H. Schulte on Dec. 14, 1927, and they shared 52 years of marriage. She was a homemaker, but she also worked as a cook and pie baker at Windrow's Fountain in Hondo and at Sammy's Restaurant in Castroville for a number of years. She always had a vegetable garden and flowers were her pride and joy. Her hobbies included watching TV, especially certain soap operas and John Wayne movies, crocheting and playing bingo.

She had many names, Mama, Granny, Great Granny, Mrs. Schulte, Lena, Lizzie, Sophie, but also friend. She said that more than anything, she loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren without the problems of day-to-day parenting. She remembered the birthdays, anniversaries and favorite foods of every member of their extended family. She could always tempt her family and friends to visit by telling them she was baking cinnamon rolls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred; sons, Leroy and David; grandson, Michael Schulte; great-granddaughter, Megan Tobin; sisters, Bessie Dailey, Annie and Lena Hartman; brother George "Buddy" Hartman.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Myrtle and Marion Schneider of Castroville, Mary and Louis Mazurek of Hondo, Ruthy and Stanley Franklin of Pearsall, and Carolyn and Raymond Adamietz of Bandera; sons and daughter-in-law, Alfred Jr. and Lois Schulte of Kerrville, Charles and Annette Schulte of Bandera and Thomas and Carol Schulte of Dilley; daughters-in-law, Toni Schulte of California and Linda Schulte of Hondo; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and brother, Fritz A.
