Kitty Lynn Finchum, 97, of Greeneville, died Monday at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Finchum was the oldest member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, at the time of her death. She served it "faithfully" as long as her health permitted.

She had served as an assistant Sunday school superintendent, a Sunday school teacher, a choir member, and as a chairman of the board. She was a trustee and had served on the finance committee.

Mrs. Finchum was the last charter member of the Mount Pleasant UM Women and held various offices throughout the years.

A few years ago, she had to take a leave of absence from the Nolachuckey Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. While an active member, she served on various committees and for one term as chaplain.

Mrs. Finchum was the Democrat registrar in the 8th district for more than 40 years.

She did volunteer work with the Roby Fitzgerald Adult Center.

Mrs. Finchum was the widow of Alvin Finchum.

Survivors include four children and their spouses: Jeanne Dobes of Grand Blanc, Mich., Lynn and Jack Cummins of Logan, Ohio, and Douglas and Carolyn Finchum and David Finchum, all of Greene County; her grandchildren and their spouses: Jeanne and Terry Poling of Logan, Richard and Ellie Cummins of Miami, Fla., Mark and Teresa Finchum of Simpsonville, S.C., Angie and Randy Lawson of Mohawk, and Shelly and Alfred Shaw, Lisa and Clint Ricker, and Mike and Lori Finchum, all of Greene County; her great-grandchildren: Zackary Poling, Christopher Cummins, Jennifer Cummins, Mauricio Granados, Magdelina Granados, Kathryn Lobo, Matthew Finchum, Jenna Lynn Finchum, Kaylin Lawson, Spencer Lawson, Eli Lawson, Emily Shaw, Anna Shaw, Seth Ricker, Macy Ricker, Zackary Finchum, Aaron Finchum, and Sydney Finchum; two great-great-grandchildren: Brandon Granados and Beyonce Granados; her special nieces: Marie Ricker, Beckie Jo McInturff and her husband, Cliff, Elizabeth Tullock, Carolyn Bullington, Rebecca Ann Prillaman and her husband, Randy, and Reeve Love; her special nephews: Dr. Hugh Jaynes and his wife, Eleanor, Matthew Jaynes and his wife, Kim, and Joe Jaynes; two sisters-in-law: Lola Jaynes and Sylvia Jaynes; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and a very dear friend: Leota Bowers.

She was a daughter of the late James Shipley and Azubba Lyon Jaynes and was preceded in death by three sisters: Lucille Morgan, Mary Sue Love, and Josephine Mills; and three brothers: Joseph Oliver Jaynes, the Rev. James David Jaynes, and Roe Lyon Jaynes.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. today at Jeffers Funeral and Cremation Service.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Mount Pleasant UM Church. The Rev. Roger Crim, the Rev. Mark Wills, and Dr. Eddie Jordan will officiate.

"There will also be reading of her favorite Scriptures, songs and poetry - all of which reflect the life she had striven to live," her family noted.

The body will be taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Finchum, Mark Finchum, Harold Pack, Don Baughard, Howard Whaley, Bobby Lane, Jimmy Lane, Butch Shaw, and Jim Jordan

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Wesley Bible Class and UMW of Mount Pleasant UM Church, Freddie Shaw, and William West.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Pleasant UM Church Building Fund.
