Delbert's parents married in Kay County, Oklahoma, in June, 1902, but Delbert, their first son, was born in Pueblo, Colorado. Sometime afterwards they returned to Kay County, where they rented a farm in Tonkawa township and made enough money by 1910 to buy it. In June, 1913, they sold their farm and moved to Utah. There Delbert's parents and his Uncle Arthur and Aunt Lettie bought a ranch together in Indian Canyon. During the school year, Delbert's mother lived in Duchense (doo-SHAYN) so that Delbert could go to school there. His brothers Leslie and Douglas were born there as well. In 1919 Delbert's parents sold the ranch and moved to Pasadena, California, then bought a farm in Zelzah, now called Northridge, where they ran an apricot orchard and a hatchery. Delbert went to school there with his younger brother Les.
In 1923, while they were living in Zelzah, Delbert's mother died of typhoid. Sometime after that the family moved to Carlsbad near Oceanside in San Diego County, California. In 1928 Delbert, then 15, was working in a hatchery, and his father was working as a carpenter, and later as a rancher. By 1930 Delbert was living on his own in a boarding house and working as a gardener.
Around 1933 Delbert and his father moved to Sutter County, California, where they started a ranch in Grimes. By 1934 Delbert had married Mabel A. Lind, a Swede from Minnesota who was ten years his senior. They did not have children. By 1938 they had moved to a house in Meridian, Sutter County, while maintaining the ranch in Grimes. Sometime after 1944 they moved to Woodland, in Yolo County, while his father Charles Frank Brown lived on the ranch in Sutter County. This placed Delbert close to his brother Douglas in Knight's Landing, but he would make trips back to the ranch. Sometimes his cousin Grant and Grant's son Rich would drive up from Oakland to hunt pheasants with Delbert on his ranch.
After Delbert died in 1965, his wife Mabel returned to her relatives in Minnesota, where she died on August 14, 1969, in Sherburne.
