Joshua Young was probably born in what is now McDowell County, North Carolina. Joshua & Mary Pritchett Young moved to Cherokee County after several of their children moved there. Descdedants say they are both buried in the Valleytown Cemetery however, their graves are marked only by fieldstones with no names engraved.
