Obituary for Margaret Ruth Honey
Margaret Ruth Honey, 82, of Panama City Beach, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 10, 2012.
She was born in Calhoun County, Alabama on May 23, 1929 to John A. and Beatrice Anderson.
Margie, as she was known to her family and friends, was raised in Athens, Alabama where she called home.
She graduated from Athens State College, at the young age of 20, with a B.S. in Accounting and Economics.
She met her husband Curtis P. Honey at an automobile dealership in Birmingham, Alabama and the two later married on November 3, 1951. They went to Miami for their honeymoon and remained there for 12 years.
She had more than 25 years experience with automobile dealerships as an accountant, business manager, comptroller and vice president. In 1975, she began a career with the Florida Department of Labor and Employment Security. She retired in 1992 having served as Director of Planning, Budgeting, and Evaluation.
After her retirement to Panama City Beach, she resumed her passion of reading, oil painting and club work.
Her memberships included the Gulf Beach Garden Club where she served as treasurer and librarian, the Women's Civic Club as Recording Secretary, Gulfview United Methodist Church as a member of the Administrative Board, the Board of Trustees and the United Methodist Women Sunshine Club, as Treasurer, as well as the Widowed Persons Service where she served as Treasurer.
Margie is preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Curtis P. Honey.
She is survived by her son Marc Honey and his wife, Judy, sister-in-law, Catheryn Honey Miller, longtime friend, Ken Algar, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Athens City Cemetery in Athens, Alabama.
