From the Osawatomie Graphic - Osawatomie, Miami County, Kansas - February 10, 1910: "Died.  John Spader died Sunday evening at the county poor farm, where he had been taken some time ago.  He was about 86 years of age.  His death was the result of old age and paralysis.  Mr. Spader was a native of New Jersey.  He came to Kansas in territorial days and lived at Osawatomie a great many years, but of recent years had been at Kansas City and other places. He is survived by two sons and three daughters, who provided a good home for him, but he would not stay with them. He returned to Miami county some time ago and was taken ill and was sent to the county farm.  He also leaves a brother, William Spader, in Kansas City. The name and address of his grandson, Charles Sorter, of Saline was found among some of his papers.  Mr. Sorter was notified and came here and made arrangements for the burial.  The body was brought to Suit's undertaking rooms Monday, and Tuesday was taken to Osawatomie and buried beside his son, Jacob Spader, in the Osawatomie cemetery. – Miami Republican."
