Archibal Hamilton was a hardworking farmer. By 1910 he was able to own his land, free and clear. But due to the Great Depression and the needs of his extended family, he re-mortgaged his farm while he continued to work it in the hope of a brighter future.


A. B. Hamilton m1. 21 Dec 1871 Perry County, Alabama, to Louisa "Lou" Griffin (daughter of William Griffin and Martha Jane Rayfield). The 1880 census notes their children included: John Lawrence Hamilton, William Robert Hamilton and James Hamilton.


A. B. Hamilton m2. 13 Dec 1883 Grimes County, Texas, to O. B. Thornton. (Archibald and Obedience Hamilton on 1920 census.)


The 1890 census was destroyed in a conflagration. Unable to find a 1900 census for A. B. Hamilton and household.


The 1910 census notes the children of Arch and "Bida" ("Beedy" on son Edgar's death certificate; "Bedie" on daughter Maggie's death certificate; "Obedia" on son Jesse's death certificate) Hamilton included:

Jesse Hamilton (Jesse Franklin Hamilton) (1891–1975)

His obituary mentions his surviving seven sons John Lawrence Hamilton of Finton; William Robert Hamilton of Reed, Greer County, OK (1877–1961); C H Hamilton of Tyler, Smith County, TX [could he be son James Hamilton?]; A L Hamilton of Anderson; Edgar Lee Hamilton of Elk City, OK (1887–1945); J T Hamilton of Runge, Karnes County, TX [could he be son Jesse F Hamilton?]; W T Hamilton of Elk City, OK; and two daughters Grace Louella Hamilton Ford of Rosebud and Margaret Rebecca Hamilton Hammond of Iola, Grimes County, Texas (1888–1971).
