Melvin Kelly

SOUTH PEKIN -- Melvin E. Kelley, 75, of 305 Birkette, died at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Sharon Elms Health Care Center in Peoria.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Woolsey Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Joey Watt will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following the services.

Friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

He was born Dec. 30, 1922, in Farmington to Elmer and May Settle Kelley. He married Dorothy Burnett Wheeler Aug. 4, 1989, in South Pekin.

Surviving are his wife; two stepsons, Arthur "Dan" Wheeler of Glasford and Robyn Wheeler of Peoria; three stepdaughters, Pat Madison of Edwards, Vera Martinson of East Peoria and Edna Bedwell of South Pekin; 14 step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas, two brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Kelley was an ironworker for many years. He later worked in the maintenance department at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria from 1974 until he retired in January 1985.

An Army veteran of World War II, he received the Purple Heart. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 1 in Peoria and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1232 in Pekin.

He was of the Baptist faith.
