HECTOR F. SCOVILL

Hector F. Scovill, resident of Rockford for over fifty-five years and active in the affairs of Centennial M.E. church, succumbed to asthma Monday morning at 1 o'clock at his home, 1044 Peach street, after a brief serious illness, although he had long been afflicted with this ailment.

Hector Franklin Scovill was born Nov. 16, 1859, at Paines Point, Ogle county, Ill. Three years later the family came to this city, which has since continuosly been the home of the deceased. In 1890 he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Griggs, of this city, who with their only child, Nellie, survives. He also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Mabel R. Gray, Mrs. Mary E. Bickford, Mrs. Marie L. Irons, and Mrs. G.A. Waddell, of this city, and two brothers, Henry T. Scovill of Evanston, Ill., and Homer W. Scovill of Los Angeles, Calif.

His passing came as a shock to his associates of Centennial M.E. church, where he was an active element in all the doings of the society and Sunday school. He had been a member of the official board of the church for many years and for the last two years had served as church treasurer, high tribute beoing paid to his administration of his duties in these offices. He was a teacher in the Sunday school and a member of the Brotherhood. He was regarded as a man of irreproachable character and of large value to the community.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home and at 2:30 o'clock at Centennial M.E. church, Revs. E.G. Schultz and E.E. McKay officiating, and internment will be made in Cedar Bluff cemetery.
