MECKLENBURG, NC.--Marjorie Rachel Hammett Padgett, 75, of Huntersville, N. C., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 10, 2004 at her home, where she was surrounded by her family. She was born on January 15, 1929 in Cherokee County, SC to the late Wilbert and Lennie Hammett. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Charlotte, but attended Ramah Presbyterian Church in Huntersville for the past eight years. She was a devoted wife and mother.

She is preceded in death by her son, Alan Augustus Padgett.

She is survived by her husband, William Augustus Padgett; son, Clayton L. Padgett and wife, Lisa, of Raleigh; daughters, Janet P. Ashley of Charlotte and Jane P. Brotherton and husband Stephen, of Huntersville; Brothers, Glenn Hammett and wife Lillie, of Gaffney, Forrest Hammett and wife Katie, of Piedmont, Maynard Hammett and wife Madeline, of Gaffney and Robert Hammett and wife Brenda, of Gaffney; sisters, Billie Welch and husband Hebert, of Charlotte, Annie Ruppe and husband Marshall, of Charlotte and Mary Brown and husband Ralph, of Thomasville; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, at Ramah Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Phil Hargrove officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn West. The family will recieve friends Saturday night from 7-8:30 p.m. at Raymer Funeral Home.

Memorial may be made to Hospice of Charlotte, 1420 E. 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204 or Ramah Presbyterian Church, 14401 Ramah Church Road, Huntersville, NC 28078.

The family wishes to thank all of the friends who have supported them during her illness. They also want to thank Hospice of Charlotee for their aid and respectful care.

The children would like to thank their mom for teaching them, loving them, and guidling them towards God.
