Michael Patrick Sheahan, age 20, of Madison, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 25, 2008, in an automobile accident in Ilinois.

He was born on July 11, 1988 in Madison, WI, the son of Pat and Helen (Jenkin) Sheahan.

Michael graduated from James Madison Memorial High School in 2007 where he was a National Merit Scholarship finalist, National Advanced Placement Scholar, and received the Highest Academic Honors medallion.

At the University of Pennsylvania, Michael was pursuing dual degrees in bioengineering at the School of Engineering and business at the Wharton School of Business.

This summer Michael researched soft lithography techniques for cell culture at the UW Center on Nanostructured Materials.

Michael played the piano and violin. He was in the high school orchestra for four years and competed in Solo Ensemble as a pianist.

Michael was a 12 year member of 4-H, building many award winning rockets and models. He also enjoyed camping, hiking, canoeing, and traveling.

Michael loved soccer and Ultimate Frisbee, playing on Memorial High School's 2006 Division 1 State Champion Varsity Soccer Team and 2007 State Champion Ultimate Frisbee Team.

At Penn, Michael was a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and played on the University of Pennsylvania's Ultimate Frisbee Team.

Michael volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, taught summer church school, and tutored low income students at the West Philadelphia Tutoring Project.

Michael was an amazing young man: intelligent, kind, an easy friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Michael is survived by his parents, Pat and Helen Sheahan; a sister, Julia Sheahan; his paternal grandmother, Coletta Sheahan; his aunts, Barbara Jenkin and Mary Sheahan; uncles, Robert (Mary) Sheahan, Dan (Sharon) Sheahan, Jerry Sheahan and David (Anne) Sheahan; many cousins, other relatives and friends.

Michael was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Richard Sheahan and his maternal grandparents, Deane and Clarice Jenkin of Waldo, WI.

Funeral services were held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5701 Raymond Rd., in Madison, on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at 4:00 P.M., with Pastor Sheryl Erickson officiating.

A Visitation was held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, from 2:00 P.M. until the time of the Funeral Service at 4:00 P.M.
