Kathryn A. Safley 79 of Muscatine died on Friday March 9, 2012 at Trinity Hospital in Muscatine.
Funeral services will be 11a.m. Monday March 12, 2012 at the Ralph J. Wittich Riley Freers Funeral home. Dr Bruce of Wesley United Methodist Church will officiate. Casket bearers will be grandchildren, and great grandchildren, Tim Safley, Christine Berry, Sara Kauffman, Sandi Jones, Brian Carl, Trey Kauffman, Jobi Kauffman and Anthony White. Honorary bearers will be great grandchildren, Madysen Berry, Jace Kauffman, and Mathew Gillaspie. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-4p.,. Sunday March 11, 2012 at at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Patricia Safely.
Kathryn was born on March 13, 1932 in Muscatine, the daughter of William G. and Rebeccca R. Brown Estabrook. Her first marriage was to Raymond Schmelzer. he preceded her in death in 1952 in Korea. her second marriage was to Rowland "Rollie" Safely on October 23, 1954 in Muscatine, he preceded her in death on May 4, 1976.
She worked at the Muscatine Journal for 17 years.
She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Women of the Moose and the Eagles Lodge.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Peggy A. Carl and husband Chris of Muscatine, Michael J. Safely and wife Beverly of Muscatine, Patricia A. Safely of Muscatine. and David A. Safely of Muscatine. five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one infant daughter, Lori J. Safely, one sister, Ruth M. Call and two brothers, Charles W. Estabrook and George T. Estabrook.
