Age, 81, of Melbourne, FL, formerly of Palm Beach Gardens and North Palm Beach, passed away suddenly on November 3, 2012. Mr. Abbott came to Palm Beach County in 1969 from Long Island, NY. Son of the late Stephen and Josephine Abbott. Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1931, Mr. Abbott "Joe" attended Babylon High School, and the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. It was in New London where met his life-long love, the late Betty Jane Lusk. Joe supported his family by working at Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage, NY, the Company that ultimately transferred him to the Stuart, FL division. He also worked at Pratt & Whitney in Palm Beach Gardens and for a time, built single family homes in the North Palm Beach County area. Joe took significant pride in working on the Lunar Module program while at Grumman. Joe is survived by his two daughters, Cheryl Goebel and her husband, Robert of Titusville, FL and Pamela VanHooser and her husband, Lewis of Charlotte, NC; two sons, Joseph A. Abbott, Jr. and his wife, Shari of Melbourne, FL, and Jeffrey S. Abbott of Lake Worth, FL; and four grandchildren, Angela and her husband, Robert Lucas of Charlotte, NC, Brianne and her husband, Jonathan Parks of Brooklyn, NY, and Erin and Cayse Abbott of Melbourne, FL. There will be a memorial service in Brevard County at Ascension Catholic Church, Melbourne, Fl., in the Our Lady's Chapel at 4:00 PM Friday, November 9. All friends of Joe are welcome to join us. Friends may also call from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, November 10 at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 5601 Greenwood Ave., West Palm Beach, FL, with a service following at 2:00 PM. Interment at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local United Way. Services entrusted to Royal Palm Funeral Home.
