Rites for Mrs. Sophia R. Spaulding, 84, who died last Thursday at McAllen, Tex., where she was visiting her daughter, Mrs. Gordon Baxter, were held at her home, 404 North Court street yesterday afternoon.
Rev. John Gordon, pastor of Second Congregational church, officiated and music was provided by the vhoir of the First Presbyterian church, of which Mrs. Spaulding was a member. Members of the Sons of Union Veterans served as pallbearers. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.
Mrs. Spaulding, a former state president of the Woman's Relief corps, had lived almost all her life in Rockford, and was active in civic and community affairs. She was a charter member of the Rockford Woman's club and a member of its board of directors.
