Bruce Arrington, 83, Succumbs
Bruce Sidney Arrington, 83, retired railroad man, died Monday at 8:45 a.m. at a local hospital. He was the father of a prominent Idaho Falls contractor, Woodrow E. Arrington.
He was born July 19, 1881, at Newport, Tenn., to LeRoy and Priscilla Brisendine Arrington. He grew up in Newport. When he was 19 the family moved to Spanish Fork, Utah. Two years later he went to work for the Denver and Rio Grand Railroad, and two years later transferred to the Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad, which later became part of the Union Pacific Railroad system. Mr. Arrington served as a maintenance supervisor for the railroad in Utah, Nevada, Idaho and Montana. For 10 years he was engaged in mining at Magna, Utah, and later returned to railroading.
He married Bessie Mae Emerson Nov. 28, 1910, at Salt Lake City. She was from Yates Center, Kans. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Nov. 28, 1960. They have lived in various places in Idaho and Utah. On May 1, 1948, he retired from the railroad after 48 years continuous service. At that time he was the terminal roadmaster at Ogden, Utah. They came to Idaho Falls June 1, 1948, and had lived here since.
Mr. Arrington was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church.
Besides his widow, he is survived by one son, Woodrow E. Arrington, Idaho Falls. Another son, Monroe Arrington, died 11 years ago. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, and five brothers and three sisters; Grover N. Arrington, Jacob F. Arrington, Noah W. Arrington, Glen R. Arrington, all of Twin Falls; and Joseph Earl Arrington, Hollis N.Y.; Mrs. W.O. (Anner) Fisher, Helburn; Mrs. George D. (Callie) Ward, Logan, Utah; and Mrs. Ray (Pearl) Sparks, Oakland, Calif.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Trinity Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert L. Benefiel officiating.
Concluding services and interment were at Fielding Memorial Park under direction of Buck Funeral Home.
