William Henry Harrison Rugg was born in Rindge July 17, 1842 the son of Capt. William and Clarissa (Sawtell) Rugg. He enlisted in the 6th NH Infantry, Co. K on October 23 1861. The 6th NH took part in General Burnside's Cape Hatteras Expedition, prior to disembarking a number of the local soldiers were taken sick with the measles, William was among them. He died of disease in Annapolis MD January 20th 1862.
