George Flay Bivens, 76, of Highway 47, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at his home.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Madison Heights Freewill Baptist Church by the Revs. David Robinson and Sherman Branch Jr. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Mr. Bivens was born in Catawba County on April 28, 1929, to Otis Isaiah Bivens and Essie Maudella Hullett Bivens. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Learnie Bivens, Robert Bivens, Cecil Bivens and John Bivens; and one sister, Pearl Chapman.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Lingerfelt Bivens of the home; one son, Gary Bivens of Lexington; three daughters, Sandra Bivens Smith and her husband, Avon, of Charlotte, Gilda Bivens Spiegel and her husband, Walter, of Lexington and Sherri Bivens Jordan and her husband, Danny; eight grandchildren, Michelle Halbach, Amy Jo McCranie, Eric Hudson, Natalie Hudson, Amy Jarvis, Joshua Spiegel, John Spiegel and Brandi Stewart; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence Bivens and Clinton Bivens, both of Lexington; and three sisters, Ruth Wilson of Lexington, Corrine Smith of Newport News, Va., and Glenda Bean of Galax, Va.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, and other times at the home at 2430 Highway 47.
