He was born in Marion County on February 29, 1924, a son of the late Joe and Mamie Mae (Lucas) Beafore. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Vera (Hawkins) Beafore.
Charles proudly served his country with the United States Army during World War II as a medic. He was a coal miner by trade. He was retired from the Consol #9 Mine and also from Consol of Utah with a total of 42 ½ years of service. He also was one of the few survivors of the #9 Explosion. He enjoyed sports. He played baseball in Watson on the Sandlot team and also for Joe Merico's team. He also enjoyed playing softball, league bowling and was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his daughter, Jean Kisner and her husband Bob of Fairmont, one daughter-in-law, Penny Beafore of Fairmont, four grandchildren, Jamie Trotto, Holly Trotto and her fiancé Ronnie Satterfield, Tina Nuzum and her husband Rick and J. B. Beafore and his wife Chanda, all of Fairmont, five great-grandchildren, Jarrett and Riley Trotto, Clay and Laynie Nuzum and Beckett Beafore as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Mason Beafore, two brothers, Buck Beafore and Tony Beafore, six sisters, Phylis Jean Beafore in infancy, Geraldine Martin, Eleanor Forte, Catherine Hall, Ruby Falcon and Deloris Brickline.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St. Fairmont on Friday from 2-8 pm and on Saturday from 10 – 11 am. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 11 am with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating.
Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont where full military honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
