Filby Baxter Rites Thursday-
Filby Baxter, 56 passed away at the St. Joseph hospital in Ottumwa early Monday following an appendectomy last Friday. He entered the hospital early Friday after having been ill with what he presumed to be the flu. Although the appendix had not ruptured, it was extremely large.
He was the son of Joseph and Martha Music (sic) Musick Baxter and was born October 9, 1908 at LaPlata MO. He has lived most of his life in this community.
He was united in marriage to Olive Grade on August 2, 1932 at Lancaster, Missouri. He was a member of the Hedrick Christian Church.
Surving is his wife and six children. Joe of Milwaukee, Don of Des Moines, Mrs. Wayne (Pauline) Stoner of Kinross, Mrs. Jim (Marjorie) Van Polen of Bussey and Linda and Janice at home.
Three brothers, John of Ottumwa, Clarence of Hedrick, and Clifford of Bladensburg; a sister Mrs. Harry Keck of near Ottumwa; and ten grand-children.
Preceding him in death were a son David, killed in service, and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at the Fremont Funeral Chapel on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Jeen Park, pastor of the Hedrick Christian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery near Ottumwa.
