BIG STONE GAP, Va. — Cecil Benard Christian passed away Thursday (May 7, 2009) at Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Home in Duffield, Va.
He was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a former construction worker.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Patton Christian; and several half-brothers and sisters.
Cecil is survived by his mother, Virgie Christian of Big Stone Gap, Va.; his children, Monica Brooks of Wise, Va., Melissa Sampson of Andover, Va., Cassie Stidham and Jamie Lee Christian, both of Big Stone Gap, Va and Brandon Christian of Appalachia, Va.; one brother, Tommy Christian and wife, Louise of Big Stone Gap; two sisters, Mavis Davis and Judy Needham; several grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 1 to 2 p.m. at Gilliam Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, Va. Funeral services will follow in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Duke Barker officiating.
Graveside services will follow in the American Legion Cemetery, Big Stone Gap, Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Gilliam Funeral Home is serving the Christian family.
