MANTACHIE – Morris E. Grissom, 85, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. A lifelong resident of Mantachie, he was born Oct. 28, 1916, in Itawamba County to the late Al Grissom and Dona M. Tackett Grissom. He was a veteran of World War II. He entered the Army 5th Air Force in January 1944 and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1946. He then worked for the Mississippi State Highway Department as an engineer surveyor for 32 years before retiring. Earlier in his career he helped build the Alaskan Highway. He was a member of the Mantachie United Methodist Church. Earlier in his life, he raised horses as a hobby.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with the Rev. Ronnie Goodwin and the Rev. Rank Boyte officiating. Burial will be in the Mantachie Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Burnette Grissom, on May 1, 1985; two sisters, Mary Francis Grissom and Pauline Brooks; three brothers, Horace Grissom, James Grissom and Junior Grissom; and his parents.
