Ocala - Lucy Jernigan Gay, 84, passed away on March 7, 2012 at Estelle's House. She was born on January 4, 1928 in Clermont, Florida, the daughter of Perry Almond Jernigan and Clellah Lochner Jernigan. Her family moved to Ocala when she was six months old. Lucy graduated from Ocala High School in 1946 and married Verton Eugene Gay in 1948. Lucy was employed as the Bookkeeper for Jim Jernigan's Studio. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ocala, and for many years was the Chairperson of the Kindergarten Sunday School Classes. She was a member of the Friendly Fellowship Sunday School Class. and United Methodist Women. Lucy was a member of the Ocala Junior Woman's Club and was named their Most Valuable Member in 1958. She was also an avid Gator fan. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years. She is survived by her daughter, LuAnne Gay, her brother Jim Jernigan and her sister-in-law, Betty Jernigan, nephews, Richard (Sharon) and John (Sheila) Jernigan and a niece. Jan Jernigan Chapman (AI). She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Catherine Gay, Joyce Gay Mainer and several nieces. Visitation will be at Hiers Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 13th from 5 - 7 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery on Wednesday, March 14th at 11:00 a.m., with Dr. John Few conducting the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church or to Interfaith.
