Walter T. Senek, a retired vice president of the Philadelphia Gas Works, died Saturday after a brief illness. He was 76 and lived in Jenkintown.
After nearly 40 years with PGW, Senek retired in 1988, as vice president of rates and federal regulatory affairs.
Born in Philadelphia, Senek was a 1940 graduate of Central High School. He attended Drexel University, majoring in chemical engineering. His schooling was interrupted by World War II, when he was inducted in 1944. He served in the infantry in Europe and was discharged as a corporal.
After the war, he returned to Drexel, graduating in 1947.
He went to work for PGW in 1949 as an engineer assistant. In 1952, he transferred to the Richmond plant, where he became plant engineer in 1958.
In 1959, he moved to the Passyunk plant. In 1962, he became assistant superintendent. In 1964, Senek joined the development department as gas procurement engineer and assistant director of operations in charge of rates and forecasts.
Senek was appointed vice president of planning and rates regulations in 1985 and later was named vice president of rates and federal regulatory affairs.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Lesyk Senek; a daughter, Maryanna Brandt; a stepson, Ronald Strykowsky; a stepdaughter, Elaine Shannon, five grandchildren and a brother, Joseph Senek.
A Requiem Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Annunciation BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church in Melrose Park. Burial will be in St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Fox Chase.
Parastas prayers will be sung at 7 p.m. today at the Nasevich Funeral Home, 109 E. Tabor Road, where friends may call one hour earlier.
