The former Anna Neill, was born in rural Racine on March 18, 1888, where she studied art and education, and also studied art in Minneapolis before graduting from the Chautauqua School of Nursing in Jamestown, N.Y. in 1912. She was a nurse to Dr. Henry Plummer, and witnessed numerous surgery operations by the Mayo brothers. She ran one of the first care centers for the aged at her rural Racine home, which was called 'Shady Nook". She married William Hare in 1955 in Spring Valley. He preceded her in death in 1978.
