Katherine (Catherine) de Usflete, died after 3rd.Dec., 1436, a daughter of Sir Gerard de Usflete (the 2nd) of Swanland near North Ferriby, Yorkshire. She married William de Beauchamp, esq., of Powyke (Powick) who died before c.1431. He was Constable of Gloucester Castle in 1382, Sheriff of County Worcester in 1402 and later Sheriff of County Gloucester in 1423, MP in 1407, 1413, 1414 and 1416.(Click-on pictures for larger views and to read more text, also go to page 2).
An old style letter "s" looks like a letter "f" and often when the name Usflete and variants of it with the letters "sf" are transcribed into modern documents or indexes to them, it is wrongly transcribed into a double "ff", but the nearer phonetic to Usefleet and Ousefleet is Usflete (and variants with an "s"), not Ufflete or variants of that.
The earliest abode of the Usflete family at the outset was the hamlet/village of Ousefleet next to Whitgift, Yorkshire.
