Santa makes a comeback in Downtown Auburn

Wayne Yarborough was helping festoon the porch area with Christmas decorations. He too remembered the times around the holidays in the 1950s when he would visit with his family from Colfax to shop in Auburn and give the Auburn Hotel Santa some ideas from his wish list.

"I just remember everything looking like Christmas in Auburn," Yarborough said.

A Purity store was where Staples is today, he recalled. Montgomery Ward and JC Penney were Downtown and there was a large tree brought in to Central Square, he said.
