Obituary: Arland Peter "Pete" Koubek
Arland Peter "Pete" Koubek was born June 9, 1927, to Frank James Koubek and Katie Janesosfsky Koubek in Sargent. He departed this life on June 6, 2011, in Cozad.
In his youth, the family moved to Arnold, where he worked in the family business, Koubek Lockers.
He graduated from Arnold High School in 1946, and served his country during the Korean War.
He married Patricia Faherty on Jan. 7, 1957, in Arnold at St. Agnes Catholic Church. As newlyweds they made their home in Kansas City, Mo„ where he worked for Chemago Chemical Company and perused a degree in chemistry. He graduated from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in May of 1963.
Arland and Patricia returned to Nebraska in the 1960s, and he continued to work for Koubek Lockers through the 1960s. He also farmed in Arnold and did custom haying for farmers and ranchers in and around the area.
He was a mountain climber and ski instructor in Colorado for many years. He excelled at skiing and enjoyed being active, especially being outdoors.
Arland was a proud patriot and instilled his patriotism and love of his country in his children. He was an active member of the American Legion and was recently honored as 60-year member.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, in 1974; infant son, Michael Patrick Koubek in 1962; granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Koubek in 1999; his parents, Frank and Katie Koubek; and siblings, Raymond, Alvin, Robert, Barbara and John.
Arland is survived by his sons, Peter (Tonic) Koubek, of Arnold, Jim (Katya) Koubek, of Iowa, Steve (Yvonne) Koubek of Alabama; daughter, Cathy (Mark) Rothmeyer, of Arkansas; grandchildren, Amanda (Patrick) Keller, Erin Koubek, all of Colorado, Dustin and Katie Koubek and Cade Ogburn, of Gothenburg, Anna Maria and Alexandria Koubek, of Iowa, Drew, Rachel and Jessica Koubek, of Alabama, Matthew, Michael and Patricia Rothmeyer, of Arkansas.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Father Hubert Spanel officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Arnold Cemetery.
Arnold Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
