Fred was born near the Goosefoot Community, between Skullbone and Gann, Tennessee. He was raised in this area also. He married Lorene Williams on July 25, 1936, in Skullbone, Tennessee.
He and Lorene had three children, all sons. Fred worked as a farmer as well as at Milan Box Corporation in Milan, Tennessee.
Fred died of cancer and heart disease on Dec. 5, 1977, after a long illness. He died at his home of over 30 years.
