She was born on Jan. 2, 1920 in Villa Grove to Samuel and Cordelia Redd Norman. She was preceded in death by one daughter, one daughter-in-law, five brothers, seven sisters and two great-granddaughters. She married James K. Phelps Sr. on May 4, 1940 in St. Louis, Mo. He survives.
Also surviving are three sons, James K. (Tami) Phelps Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C. and Philip W. (Vickie) Phelps and Gary E. (Shawn) Phelps, both of Urbana; one daughter, Sharon A. (Richard) Slade of Champaign; nine grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Phelps worked for the Champaign County Nursing Home, Carle Foundation Hospital and Kmart of Urbana.
She enjoyed crafts.
