Mrs. Alice Hughes
(Obituary)
Alice E. Hughes was born in Boone county, Iowa, May 1, 1852, and passed away at Loup City, Nebraska, September 18, 1945, aged 93 years, 4 months and 17 days.
Her father passed away when she was two weeks old. She, with her mother, moved to Jefferson county, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood.
On September 10, 1871, she was married to Wm. H. Hughes. To this union nine children were born, three of whom preceded their mother in death. Mr. Hughes died in 1907.
The family came to Clay county, Nebraska, in 1872, living there until 1902 when they came to Sherman county, and later to Loup City where Mrs. Hughes spent the remainder of her life.
She was converted at the age of 11 years, uniting with the Methodist church. On November 16, 1941, she united with the Baptist church at Loup City and remained a faithful servant of the Lord and the church throughout her life.
The following survive: Mrs. Nancy Burt, Pinehurst, Wash., Mrs. Nettie Pielstick, Gibbon, Nebr., Homer Hughes, Portland, Ore., Mrs. Emma Daddow and Mrs. Tom McFadden, Loup City, Winifred Hughes, Newberg, Ore.; thirty-one grandchildren; fifty-two great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday at 2:00 p. m. from the First Baptist church, in charge of Rev. M. H. Knobloch of Lincoln. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery.
