Jeff D. Burger
Jeff D. Burger of Gonzales died Saturday, December 31, 2005. He was born June 5, 1920. His parents were Jeff and Lottie Crowell Burger of Luling. He attended Oak Forest School and entered the Army in 1939. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church Knights of Columbus Council #5090. He was a past commander and life member of the V.F.W. Post #4817 and a life member of Disabled Veterans of Yoakum. He was also given a certificate of recognition from the local Post #4817 for having flown his flag every day.
After his retirement from G.V.E.C. with 34 years of service, J.D. and Anna Laura, moved to Shiner in 1981. He began working for the Shiner Senior Citizens, mostly driving medical patients to appointments in Victoria. He greatly enjoyed supporting the community and helping others. In 1997 they returned to Gonzales to make their home. Some of his interests were camping, fishing and having coffee with friends. However his true passion was gardening, which he enjoyed his whole life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Willard and Clifford, and his sister, Margie Zucknick.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anna Laura Vinklarek Burger; his son, David Burger and his wife, Joyce Roznovsky Burger of Lake Worth, Florida, and Gerald Burger of Houston, his daughters, Sister Maria Paschalis of Mechelon, the Netherlands, Susan Burger of Austin, and Jeanette Wolken and her husband, Joe of Austin.
He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Robert Garvel, Patrick Flinn, Billy Moran, Chris Green, Paul Carson and Greg Burger. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Knights of Columbus Council #5090.
Memorials can be made to donor’s choice, the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund or the Sisters of Holy Cross in Detroit, Michigan.
Visitation will be held at Buffington Funeral Home of Gonzales on Tuesday, January 3, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Rosary will follow visitation at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at 10:00 a.m., at the St. James Catholic Church in Gonzales with burial in Shiner Catholic Cemetery.
