He was a great storyteller and enjoyed fishing.

Opelika-Auburn News, Sunday, April 11, 2004:

Graveside services for Brooks Webb Carlisle, 93, of Loachapoka, will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Loachapoka City Cemetery, with the Revs. Hank Demous and Isaac Kervin officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday, April 12, 2004 at Frederick's Funeral Home.

Mr. Carlisle was born April 30, 1910 in Loachapoka with 6 inches of snow on the ground. He passed away Saturday, April 10, 2004 at Care Center of Opelika. In the 1930s, Mr. Carlisle worked for the W.P.A. in Georgia, where he hauled timber for bridge construction. He received $7.50 per week for himself, one helper and a truck. For meals, he and his helper received 144 eggs each per week. While working there, he met his wife. After they got married, he brought her to Loachapoka and started farming. He was a Baptist by faith. Survivors include one son, James Carlisle of Loachapoka and a daughter, Ann Reece of Whitestone, Ga.; one brother, Bruce Carlisle of Montgomery; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Hospice of East Alabama Medical Center, 665 Opelika Road, Auburn, AL 36830.

Frederick's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
