Son of Hugh Milton and Martha Jane Stackhouse Stackhouse, husband of Annie Pauline Greene.

"Son of H. M. Stackhouse, for many years state senator from Marlboro County. R. E. was born in Marion, South Carolina, October 21, 1866. His early training was had in the country schools of the neighborhood. Graduated from the State Normal College of the University of Nashville. He married Miss Annie P. Green, of Greenwood, South Carolina on December 6, 1891. After graduation he taught in the Montgomery Bell High School of Nashville, Tennessee, until admitted into the ministry of the South Carolina Conference in December 1888. Has supplied numerous churches since. Filled the chair of natural science in the Columbia Female College two sessions. He is now on the Pendleton Circuit and preching at Clemson College." COLUMBIA - Dr. Robert E. Stackhouse, 81, prominent South Carolina Methodist leader, died at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon in a hospital in Montgomery, Ala.

He was taken ill November 3 at Lake Junaluska, N.C., where he made his home, and for five weeks was a patient in a hospital in Asheville, N.C. He recovered sufficiently to be moved to the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. B. Roberts of Montgomery, where he took a turn for the worse.

He was born October 21, 1866, the son of H. Milton and Martha Stackhouse. He attended public school in Marion (now Dillon) County, attended the Reedy Creek Academy, was graduated from Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn., and received his D.D. degree from Wofford College in 1911. He married Miss Annie Greene, December 16, 1891.

He was a member of the SC Methodist conference from 1888 to 1931. He served in a number of churches in SC, taught for one year, 1888, at Columbia College, was presiding elder in the Rock Hill, Marion, Spartanburg, Columbia and Greenville districts, and was editor of the Southern Christian Advocate from 1921-1926.

He served as secretary of the Board of Christian Education, as dean of Pastor's School, and was a member of the Board of Education for 12 years. He was a member of the Board of Mission conferences and of the Missionary Society, was chairman of the board of trustees of Lander College for a number of years, and for 12 years was a member of the General Board of Church Extension.

He was a member of the following General conferences: 1910, 1914, 1918, 1922, 1926 and one special session.

He was a member of the Upper SC conference for one year, 1931, and at the end of 1931 was retired from active ministry.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Annie Greene Stackhouse; a son, J. Milton Stackhouse of Richmond, Va.; three daughters, Mrs. W. A. Gregory of Griffin, Ga., Mrs. J. E. Eubanks of Augusta, Ga. and Mrs. L. B. Roberts of Montgomery, Ala.; and 2 grandchildren.

The body will be brought to Columbia for the funeral services to be conducted at 4 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from Dunbar funeral home. His brother-in-law, Dr. B. R. Turnipseed of Greenville, will have charge of the services.
