Alvin Martin Whitby, Sr. of Trappe, formerly of Queen Anne County, died on Thursday, April 20, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital in Easton. He was 65.

Born in Baltimore on October 4, 1934, he was the son of the late Clarence and Margaret Long Whitby. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-60 and, following his release from active duty, continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves and the National Guard until 1962. He married the former Frances Lovinia Rishel in 1961 and they were together until 1979. He worked for Southern States as a warehouse supervisor for 23 years and then as a farm hand raising horses for Parker Callahan for ten years. At the time of his death, he was self-employed as a handyman.

Mr. Whitby is survived by his wife, the former Gloria Lee Dodson, whom he has been with for 20 years; three daughters, Teresa L. Steenken of Ingleside, Sandra A. Radcliffe of Trappe, and Deborah S. Steenken of Preston; a son, Alvin M. Whitby, Jr. of Easton; three step-daughters, Christine Jinkens of LaFayette, TN, Glenda Rawlings of Shaddyside, and Rita Crow of Edgewater; four step-sons, H. Gene Crow of Bridgetown, Lester Lee Crow of Prince Frederick, Larry Walter Crow of Prince Frederick, and Kevin Brian Crow of Edgewater; five sisters, Catherine Gilbert of Cambridge, Louise Jackson of Tiffon, GA, Mary Alice Willis of Florida, Joyce Ann Rishel of Easton, and Doris Mae Hawk of Easton; three brothers, Robert Whitby of Florida, James Whitby of Queenstown, and Nelson Whitby of Easton; 17 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Dorothy Murphy and Betty Meekins, are deceased.

Funeral services will be held at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Saturday, April 22, 2000 at 2:00 PM. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Landing Neck Cemetery, Trappe.
