G. Irene Slingerland, of Clearwater, Florida, died peacefully on Monday at the age of 84. Irene was born in Syracuse, on January 28, 1921. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, John Slingerland; her daughter, Jean (Jack) Emerson, of Marcellus; her grandson, J.P. (Sheila) Emerson, of Jamesville; her granddaughter, Beth Emerson of Clay; her brothers, H. Owen (Jean) Roberts of Syracuse and John Roberts of St. Petersburg, Florida; her beloved great-grandchildren, Sean, Katherine and Daniel Emerson; and several nieces and nephews. She and her husband retired from Syracuse Frame Service, and moved to Florida in 1984. The family will honor Irene with private services, and her burial will be in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Donations in Irene's memory may be made to Hospice Foundation of the Florida Suncoast, Inc., 300 E. Bay Dr., Largo, FL 33770.
