Mrs. Hanzal, 79, of Rochester, died of natural causes Saturday (July 5, 2008) at Saint Marys Hospital.
Mary Harriet Reid was born May 3, 1929, in Janesville, Wisconsin. She lived in Janesville until 1947. From 1947 to 1951, she attended the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie. She moved to Rochester in 1951 to begin her internship at Saint Marys Hospital.
On August 9, 1952, she married Joseph Hanzal at St. Francis, de Salle Catholic Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her husband is a retired x-ray film processor at Mayo Clinic; he survives. Also surviving are their children and their families: Steven Hanzal, his wife Yvonne Hanzal, son Joshua Hanzal; Joseph Hanzal, Jr., his wife Karen Hanzal, son Jack Hanzal; Mary Ellen Alink, her husband Harley Alink son Jacob Alink; Anne Ogletree, her husband Mike Ogletree, her daughter Codye Kennon and son Jed Kennon; Jean Murray and her husband Chris Murray.
Mrs. Hanzal was a dietitian at Saint Marys Hospital. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, gardening and fishing. She was a philanthropist.
