From the 7/14/1882 Van Wert, Ohio, Bulletin: "Mr. Johnathan Smith, father of Isiah Smith the photographer, died at his residence on Shannon street, Saturday, July 8th, after an illness of forty days of typhoid fever. Mr. Smith was born in Clinton county, O., in 1816, and was therefore at the time of his death sixty-two years of age. In 1842 he married with Miss Sarah Briggs, of Clinton county, where they lived until 1877, at which time they moved to this place. Eight children were born to them, six of which are living. Mr. Smith's funeral took place from his late residence Sunday evening, July 9th, Rev. And. J. Fish officiating, and the remains were buried in Woodland cemetery. The deceased was a member of the Protestant Church."
