George E. "Sam" Karcher, age 74, of the City of Tonawanda died Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Erie County Medical Center. Born in Buffalo, NY to the late George J. and Grace (Creed) Karcher, he had been a resident of the City of Tonawanda for the past 40 years. He was the husband of Marilyn (nee Scranton) Karcher who died in 1984, and husband of Thelma Karcher who died in 1997. Mr. Karcher had been employed for 43 years at Spaulding Fibre Co. in Tonawanda, retiring in 1992. He also worked at Ultra Tool in North Tonawanda from 1992 - 1998. He is survived by three children, Mark E. (Patty) Karcher of Grand Island, NY, JoAnn (Dr. Brian) Gagliardi of Canandaigua, and Lori McConnell of Tonawanda; seven grandchildren, Jason, Ryan, Greg, Paige, Chase, Katie, and Jonathan; a brother, Robert (Betty) Karcher of Lockport, NY; and several nieces and nephews. Family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday (November 10th) from 6-8 PM ONLY at John O. Roth Funeral Home, Inc., 25 William St. (between Morgan and Broad Sts.) City of Tonawanda, where a Funeral Service will be held at 8 PM following visitation. Private burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery.
