William Henry Berry, Sr. is my maternal grandfather. He was born in Mexia, Limestone, Texas, USA. He served in the U.S. Army during WWI and was gassed in the Argonne Forest in France and earned a Purple Heart. He married my grandmother, Gussie Lee Farmer, a school teacher, in June 1918, and had seven children (two died in infancy). They moved from Texas to California in 1942 and lived in Gardena and Los Angeles. He was survived by his wife, five children, thirteen grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.
