Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Velvet and Cammie Bayne Banks.
Billy retired as lieutenant from the City of Stuart (Florida) Fire Department after 22½ years of service. He was an avid gardener and master carpenter who took great pride in his work. Prior to his illness, he attended New Life Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Faye Banks of the home; four sons, James (Susie) Banks, of Haleyville, AL; Billy (Debbie) Banks, Jr., of Pickens; Jimmy (Gina) Banks of Danville, KY; and Roy (Kathryn) Banks, Sr., of Palm City, FL; one daughter, Mary Ann (Thomas) Bagwell, of Easley; two sisters, Betty Harrell of Jensen Beach, FL; and Thelma (George) Quigley, of Dawsonville, GA; three brothers, Sam Banks, of Cummings, GA; J. L. Banks, of Pickens; and Henry Banks, of Liberty; fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sarah Ann Banks; a sister, Beatrice Hood; and three brothers, Praylo Cox; James Cox and Bud Cox.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 6, 2012 at 11am in the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 - 8pm at the funeral home. The family is at the home.
