William immigrated from Canada in 1869 where he was born. His father being from Ireland and his mother being from New York per the 1900 Memphis, Tennessee census. But per the 1861 Canada census his mother list her birth place as Ireland.

Per Canada 1861 census record they lived the Township of Sidney, County of Hastings, Ontario, Canada.
Per death record: Father name J. O'Brien
William had one brother Patrick, and two sisters Catherine and Elizabeth.

W. J. O'Brien, age 71, died at 1:45
o'clock yesterday morning at the home
1900 Williams street. He is survived by
two daughters, Mrs. J. W. Hollifield, of
Houston, Tex., and Mrs. Margaret Dee,
and a son. C. E. O'Brien, of this city.
Fineral service will held in Wann's
chapel, the hour to be announced later.
The Rev. W. M. Tidwell will officate.

this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. the Rev.

William is buried in Section 39, Row F, Grave 17.

I have walked this part of Memorial Cemetery many,many times. It is on a steep hillside. The ground is largely dirt and tree roots. There are almost no gravestones in this section, the graves are unmarked.
