Elena Arellano was born on March 8, 1917 to Arquelina Rodriguez Contreras and Francisco Lujan Contreras in Santa Rita New Mexico. Elena was an ardent reader always learning new cooking methodologies assuring that her family always had tasty yet healthy dishes.On June 10, 1937 Elena married Guadalupe Arellano. Elena is survived by two children Frank Arellano and his wife, Elia and Helen Landreth and her husband, Paul, four grandchildren, Ofelia Early and her husband, William, Frank Arellano and his wife, Alma, James Landreth and his wife, Heather, Paula Seelos and her husband, Michael, eight great-grandchildren, Alexandra Arellano, Jennifer Arellano, Jacob Early, Brennan Landreth, Emmie Landreth, Mia Seelos, Max Seelos, and Mason Seelos; sisters, Elvira Cuevas, Esther Martinez and her husband, Hiram, Alice Anaya, Mary Lou Contreras and brother, Frank Contreras and many nieces and nephews.
Elena loved to sing Christian hymns and often assisted the local church choir singing special hymns. Elena was an avid bible reader and liked to share her knowledge of the scriptures. Her method of living inspired others to live a Christian life. Viewing for friends and family will be done on Sunday March 4, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pastor Eliseo Montoya will officiate a Christian service at Baca's Chapel starting at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday with Pastor Eliseo Montoya with officiating. Burial will be at Memory Lane Cemetery. Following the funeral services a pot luck lunch will be at Primera Iglesia Bautista, 905 North Gold St.Silver City, NM 88062.
