Lavern Charles Leichliter
Funeral services for Lavern Charles Leichliter, 76, Ogden, are Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Carson Funeral Home in Ogden with Pastor Steve Satre officiating. Mr. Leichliter died Saturday, June 5 of complications from an auto accident at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Lavern Leichliter was born Dec. 1, 1928 in Boone, the son of Robert and Eva (Shadle) Leichliter. He received his early education in the local rural schools and graduated from Ogden High School in 1946. He married Betty Bennett Jan. 30,1949 at Community Methodist Church in Ogden. Lavern farmed in the Ogden area for 20 years and also worked for several area farmers. He retired from farming and started Leichliter Painting Service which he ran for 20 years. Lavern hired several high school youth to help paint which gave them job experience. His company also sponsored a bowling team. Lavern and his family enjoyed the many visits with John Earl Sr. and his family at the Earl Family Farm. He was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl McConnell and her fiance Lonne Tracy of Ogden; one son, Larry and his wife Deanna of Ogden; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; one sister, Fern Hammarstedt; and one brother, Melvin.
Interment of the cremains will be at the Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
Carson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
