LEBANON ENTERPRISE OBITUARY – 10/27/1933
DEATH CLOSES USEFUL LIFE - MRS. J. L. THOMPSON DIES AT RAYWICK AFTER LINGERING ILLNESS
Mrs. Rose Allie Cecil Thompson, 64 years old, wife of J.L. Thompson died at her home at 12:15 o'clock Monday afternoon [October 23, 1933] following an illness with which she had suffered for many months. For nearly a year she had been resigned to her approaching death and had been patient and brave. Her passing did not come unexpectedly. Mrs. Thompson was born September 1, 1869, a daughter of the late Thomas H. & Alethia Spalding Cecil, and had spent the last twenty-nine years of her life at Raywick. On January 8, 1890, she was united in marriage to Mr. Thompson, the ceremony having been performed at St. Ann's Church at Howardstown by a Rev. A. Reinhart. To the union were born ten children, three of whom died in infancy. Other than her husband, the survivng children are: Sister Mary Fides and Sister Rose Marie of Mount St. Joseph and Cecil, Raffo, Willard, and Albert and Aloise Thompson, all of this county. Three brothers, as follows, also survive: John G. Cecil of Raywick, T.J. Cecil of Gethsemani, and R.L. Cecil, of Vine Grove. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at St. Francis Xavier by the pastor, Rev. F.X. Laemmle, and burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: C.R. Sweets, P.E. Hughes, J.S. Hughes, J.S. Hughes, T.C. Lamkin, W.S. Smith and Howard Luckett. Mrs. Thompson had a wide acquaintance; each acquaintance was a friend. A model wife and mother, her greatest happiness was found at her own fireside with the family congregated with her. Truly such was an exemplar will be missed not only by her own family, but by the entire community in which she lived, for the light of her example still shines down the pathway pointing out to others the beauty of such a life , reminding them, "They can make their lives sublime And departing, leave behind them Footsteps on the sands of time." All that tender, skillful; care could do was done for the deceased but the time had arrived for her to "cross the bar" and while the family was assembled beside her bed, she gently and sweetly "put out to sea."
