John Edward Powell Sr, 73, of Grand Prairie went peacefully to the arms of the Lord early Sunday morning February 26, 2012 with his family by his side. He was born April 3, 1938, in Dallas, TX to Milton and Frances Morrison Powell. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Wednesday, February 29, 2012 and services will be at Laurel Land Funeral Home at 10:00 am Thursday, March 1, 2012. Ed was preceded in death by his son Robert Michael Powell, his grandson Derek Dean Bostic, his parents and his sister Louise Scales. He is survived by his wife Sara Hawkins Powell, sons John and wife Susan Powell of Arlington, TX; Keith and wife Kay Powell of Hope AR.; daughter Janet Bostic and husband Mike of Midlothian, TX. He was Grandpa to Olivia Powell, Scott and Trey Bostic and Texas Grandpa to Madison and Corey Powell, Hope, AR. Ed was a member of the Woods United Methodist Church in Grand Prairie, Texas. As a Civil Engineer, Ed worked for LTV, Cities of Grand Prairie, Coppell, Bedford and Grapevine where he retired from in 1999. He was one of the youngest Scouts in Dallas County to receive the Eagle Scout Rank. He enjoyed his hobbies of woodcarving and family genealogy after retiring. Most important to him, however, was spending time with his family and enjoying his grandchildren and their activities. Ed was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His love of family will be felt by all forever. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. He will be laid to rest at Laurel Land Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
